Agricultural Sustainability Institute: Student Farm and Children’s Garden

Our mission is to ensure access to healthy food and to promote the vitality of agriculture today and for future generations. We do this through integrative research, education, communication and early action on big, emerging issues.
- Student Farm: Since its inception in 1977, the Student Farm has served the UC Davis students and faculty, farmers, gardeners, school children and many others. Its unique program centers around three principles: 1) A focus on sustainable agriculture principles and practices; 2) An emphasis on in-field, experiential learning; 3) The encouragement of student initiative, creativity and exploration.
- Children's Garden: The Children and Youth Education program at the UC Davis Plant Science Teaching Center began more than 20 years ago as a small student-initiated project and since then has evolved into a flourishing environmental education resource popular with teachers and students. We serve elementary students and older youth through experiential field trips to our site, and we work with teachers, parent volunteers, and the general public through hands-on workshops and resource development.
Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science

UC Davis has a rich history of excellence in the wine and food sciences. For more than 125 years, the University of California has maintained active research and education programs in viticulture, enology and food science. The Robert Mondavi Institute allows the campus to move two departments -- Viticulture and Enology, and Food Science and Technology -- under one roof in a new, state-of-the-art facility. These departments, recognized as the best in the world in their respective areas of scholarship, will be linked with other disciplines investigating the role of healthy and safe foods in the quality of life.
