2013 Annual WAS Conference - La Fonda Hotel
Santa Fe, New Mexico October 16-19, 2013
La Fonda Hotel on the Plaza is a historic hotel that has been refurbished, repeatedly, but still has the distinct charm of an old adobe building. It characterizes itself as follows: "The reputation at Santa Fe's landmark hotel certainly carries some expectations. Reports of an inn on this corner stretch back nearly 200 years, or twice as long by some accounts. Famed Santa Fe architect John Gaw Meem and celebrated Southwest designer Mary Jane Colter collaborated on the hotel's distinctive appearance, creating the friendly ambiance that has made La Fonda on the Plaza a beloved landmark for generations. But that's not to say that we take ourselves too seriously. Like Santa Fe, itself, La Fonda enjoys a long history of quirky characters and local legends, international renown and community spirit. Santa Fe's favorite spot for reunions, weddings, coffee clubs, and annual pilgrimages. La Fonda meets the highest contemporary standards of hospitality while exuding the Old World charm that makes Santa Fe unique among New World destinations." For further information about the hotel, its restaurant - La Terrace at La Fonda - and its accommodations, please visit its website at: www.lafondasantafe.com.
The La Fonda Hotel is located at 100 East San Francisco Street, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87501. It is at the corner of San Fran and Washington Avenue. At that location, San Fran is a one-way east and Washington a one-way north. You can reach the hotel by phone at: (505) 982-5511.
WAS President, Melanie Kirby, noted that there are direct airline flights in Santa Fe Municipal airport and into Albuquerque International SunPort airport. Albuquerque is about 70 miles south of Santa Fe. There are shuttles and car rentals in Albuquerque, but maybe you would prefer to take the NM RailRunner - "the high speed train that winds through pretty spectacular scenery through Indian country, up to Santa Fe."
