Welcome

The UC System-wide Ergonomics Work Group consists of UC Campus, Medical Center, and National Lab employees tasked with responsibility for maximizing the overall effectiveness of the UC ergonomics programs. Understanding the reasons behind developing musculoskeletal injuries helps the group focus on creating system-wide strategies to reduce the overall risks.

Charter

Vision

The vision of the UC Ergonomics Work Group is the implementation of ergonomics into all University work environments.

This vision is based on the belief that an ergonomics perspective in the roles of prevention and early intervention in protecting workers' health and reducing injuries will ultimately lead to improved quality of life, optimal performance, and cost savings.

Mission

The mission of the UC Ergonomics Work Group is to identify the means, methods, and initiatives necessary to integrate a broad ergonomics perspective into the day-to-day operations of the University of California.

The Work Group will respond to the growing problem of musculoskeletal disorders in order to reduce human suffering, disability, and cost.

The Work Group will promote ergonomics best practices in UC ergonomics programs through work group projects, information exchange, resource sharing, research, and training.

Goals

The goals of the UC Ergonomics Work Group are to:

Promote best practices through collaborative work group projects
Develop information sharing and networking systems
Maximize the effectiveness of UC ergonomics programs and professionals

Objectives

The UC Ergonomics Work Group will accomplish the stated goals by working toward the following objectives:

Maintain a UC Ergonomics Work Group ListServ
Maintain a work group Web site
Provide furniture contract input to UCOP
Monitor regulatory affairs and guidelines
Establish relevant project teams to develop best practices
Share resources including, but not limited to:
- Guidelines for equipment, furniture, tools
- Training techniques and materials
- Publications
- Web sites
- Program management/evaluation
- Research
