Pest Management
What is IPM?
INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM) is strategy that looks at the entire eco-system and focuses on long-term prevention of pests and their damage. It uses a combination of techniques including:
- biological control
- habitat manipulation
- modification of cultural practices
- use of resistant varieties
Pesticides are used only AFTER MONITORING indicates damage thresholds have been reached, and then they are used in a way that minimizes risks to human health, beneficial and non-target organisms, and the environment.
More information on developing an IPM program or specific pest problems can be found on the tabs to the left.
