The Mailing List asset can be used by your site visitors to sign up for one of your portal mailing lists. The benefit of this is increased visibility of your mailing list, and consequently, more subscribed readers.
You can create multiple Mailing List assets for several mailing lists, depending on your needs. The title of the mailing list is displayed prominently, eliminating any confusion.
Mailing List Working Example
Mailing List Asset
To create a Mailing List asset, just enter a name and "Mailing List" from the menu.
Once you initialize the Mailing List Asset, you can select from two access control methods to keep robots out and to help real users sign-up successfully:
- Sign-up confirmation via e-mail
- Captcha Filtering
Sign-up confirmation splits the act of subscribing to your mailing list into two distinct steps.
After entering their name and email address, the user is emailed a link to finish the subscription process. Only after the user visits the link is that user subscribed to your mailing list. The virtue of this is that the user will know that they entered an incorrect e-mail address if they do not receive a confirmation email, giving them another chance to subscribe successfully. Also, this keeps anyone (human or robot) from adding fake e-mail addresses to your mailing list, boosting your confidence in your readership.
If you have sign-up confirmation enabled, this is what the user will see when they subscribe to your mailing list.
After clicking the link from the confirmation email, the user will see the following and will then be subscribed!
Captcha authentication is a simple way of filtering out a great deal of non-human activity, thus helping to keep the web-ways free of spam.
Perhaps you've already seen Captcha codes somewhere out there on the internet. Perhaps you had to type a captcha code in order to comment on a blog, or to post a classified. Now, captcha codes can be used to secure your mailing lists. The Captcha authentication on the Mailing List asset can help you to be sure that only legitimate web users are signing up for your mailing lists.
