Y.E.S. in Afterschool

- Are you in 9th - 12th grade and under the age of 18?
If you answered YES to these questions, then we have a GREAT opportunity for you!

After receiving the training, teens will be paired with a local afterschool program and will teach a science lesson to young children for one hour each week. The program will run for 10 weeks beginning the week of February 13, 2012 through the week of April 30, 2012 at Afterschool sites in Auburn and Roseville.
YES (Youth Experiences in Science) is a curriculum that was developed by the University of California Cooperative Extension. The curriculum offers planned, thematically linked science education experiences geared especially to the needs of children and child care providers. It incorporates cross-age teaching and inquiry-based activities with cooperative learning.

Topics include Bubbles, Snails, Energy, Collections, Worms, Kitchen Science, and Recycle/Reuse.

- A completed application (see below)
- Attendance at both sessions of the mandatory 10-hour training.
- A commitment to work once a week in a local afterschool program for 10 weeks.
- Mandatory fingerprinting clearance to be completed during the week of Feb 1, 2012. (Your fingerprints MUST be cleared before working at the Afterschool site)
- Timely completion of required paperwork for the 4-H Youth Development Program and the City of Roseville or Auburn Recreation District.

- The opportunity to earn up to 75 hours of community service

DATES TO KNOW
- Sunday, January 29-- Applications due in the Auburn office.
- Monday, January 30 -- Acceptance notifications : registration, fingerprinting process begins.
- Friday, February 10- First mandatory training from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m.
- Saturday, February 11 - Second part of mandatory training from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.Week of
- February 13--Teaching sessions begin in afterschool programs
- Week of April 30--Teaching sessions end in afterschool programs
- Monday, May 7--Celebration and wrap-up meeting from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
Please note: When applying each afterschool site has a specific day and time, with additional time for prep and planning. If you are not available at that day and time, please do not apply.
