Advanced Sensing & Management Technologies To Optimize Resource Use in Deciduous Tree Crops
Sound nutrient management will require knowledge of the scale and timing of nutrient demand by the crop, an understanding of the relationship between fertilization and crop response, and optimization of nutrient delivery.
Our continuing research aims to advance our approach to nutrient management with a primary focus on nitrogen and potassium. It will strive to critically examine the standard sampling practices used in orchard management for assessing plant nutrient status.
In this multi-year, and multi-state effort, exciting new technologies are being developed and field-tested. Nutrient and water utilization, soil dynamics and canopy sunlight penetration are monitored and integrated into predictive models.
