<title> UC IPM Releases Management Guidelines for Goldenspotted Oak Borer</title>      
<description><![CDATA[<a href="http://ucanr.edu/blogs/blogcore/postdetail.cfm?postnum=10268&utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=RSS%2BFeed"><img src="http://ucanr.edu/blogs/statewidemgnews/blogfiles/15969small.jpg" align="left" style="border:0"></a>First identified in California in 2004, the goldspotted oak borer (GSOB), Agrilus auroguttatus, has killed more than 24,000 oak trees in San Diego County since its arrival, probably in the late 1990s.   In 2012, it was detected in Riverside County and it is expected to spread northward in the state. 
The most seriously damaged oaks are those in the red oak group including coast live oak, Quercus agrifolia, and black oak, Q. kelloggi. <title> Volunteer Leadership Summit- November 9th</title>

At this free one-day workshop participants will hear from a range of speakers and be challenged to engage in the larger Master Gardener community by networking with their peers from across the state. The workshop will be held November 9, 2012 at the UC Davis Campus.

<title> Happy New Year!</title>

In previous years, a welcome like this only applied to those programs that began their new year on July 1.  Now, thanks to the Statewide Master Gardener Program, ALL the California Master Gardener programs are beginning the new membership year at the same time, with the same expectations for all!

<title> What the Statewide Master Gardener Program Does for Us: Part III</title>

<title> Summer Staple Gets Stung</title>      
<description><![CDATA[<a href="http://ucanr.edu/blogs/blogcore/postdetail.cfm?postnum=7577&utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=RSS%2BFeed"><img src="http://ucanr.edu/blogs/statewidemgnews/blogfiles/11497small.jpg" align="left" style="border:0"></a>I love the taste of summer. For me the taste of summer is that first charcoal-grilled hot dog of the season, sun brewed iced tea, and the big bowl of slightly chilled cherries that is always present at summer BBQs.  If you are about to start collecting your summer bounty of beautiful, red ripe cherries be aware that this year might not be the bumper crop you expected due to one pesky little problem.

<title> Peach Leaf Curl and the Drama That Unfolds</title>

<title> Inyo Mono County Master Gardeners Volunteer Group of the Year!</title>

<title> Destructive Red Palm Weevil Found in Laguna Beach</title>      
<description><![CDATA[<a href="http://ucanr.edu/blogs/blogcore/postdetail.cfm?postnum=3667&utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=RSS%2BFeed"><img src="http://ucanr.edu/blogs/statewidemgnews/blogfiles/5396small.jpg" align="left" style="border:0"></a>(Text abridged from CDFA Alert) In October 18th, 2010 Ag officials confimred the detection of a red palm weevil (scientific name: Rhynchophorus ferrugineus and native to Southeast Asia) in Orange County.&#xa0; This is the first time this pest has been found in the US.&#xa0; The weevil is considered one of the worst pests of palm trees and the trees, once infested usually die.&#xa0;

<title> Interesting Symptoms on Pear</title>

<title> UC Verde Buffalograss</title>      
<description><![CDATA[<a href="http://ucanr.edu/blogs/blogcore/postdetail.cfm?postnum=1331&utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=RSS%2BFeed"><img src="http://ucanr.edu/blogs/statewidemgnews/blogfiles/1809small.jpg" align="left" style="border:0"></a>UC Verde Buffalograss is an extremely hardy, tough grass that, because of its vigor, results in reduced pesticide/herbicide use. As well, it requires much less mowing because it has a slow vertical growth habit peaking at 4-6 inches. This gives you the flexibility to determine the &amp;ldquo;look&amp;rdquo; you want such as an unmowed meadow or a manicured turf. For a tight, uniform turfgrass, mow every two to three weeks. For a more natural look, mow much less often. <title> 20 New Edibles for 2008</title>      
<description><![CDATA[New Years isn&apos;t just about a big party and fireworks at midnight.  It is also a time that many industries bring out the new models and the vegetable industry isn&apos;t exempt from this practice....thanks goodness.  This year there are bunch of new vegetables to try in your garden.  Many of you may have already tried this as part of growing them in your demonstrations gardens. <title> Retention of Master Gardener Records</title>      
<description><![CDATA[<a href="http://ucanr.edu/blogs/blogcore/postdetail.cfm?postnum=176&utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=RSS%2BFeed"><img src="http://ucanr.edu/blogs/statewidemgnews/blogfiles/185small.jpg" align="left" style="border:0"></a>Do you wonder how long you must keep all those documents that you have for each of your master gardener volunteers?  It was a question one of the MG Coordinators asked and we didn&#8217;t have an immediate answer.  We asked the same question of the Office of Contracts and Business Services and after a bit of research, they came back with this answer based on UC Policy.  
Keep all of the current records for the year that the Master Gardener is certified. <title> First of the Statewide MG Program Updates</title>      
<description><![CDATA[What&#8217;s new at the statewide Master Gardener Program?  There is so much that it just floors us sometimes.  First, there is this blog thing.  Our hope to update it every week so you will always get the latest from the Statewide Master Gardener Office.
