Putting it all together: an integrated approach to vine mealybug management Monica Cooper, Research Associate, UC Berkeley describes IPM research projects to evaluate the use of non-disruptive control measures for vine mealybug infestations in coastal vineyards. Effects of mating disruption, parasitoid releases and well timed applications of an insect growth regulator on pest population and spread were evaluated. Short Shoot Syndrome associated with rust and bud mites Vaughn Walton, Department of Horticulture, Oregon State University. Investigations have determined that grape bud mite and grape leaf rust mite are associated with Short Shoot Syndrome in some vineyards located in cool growing regions of Oregon and Washington. Symptoms and signs of damage caused by these mites are described along with control measures. Epidemiology of canker disease and control strategies Doug Gubler, Extension Plant Pathologist, UC Davis. Disease cycles of fungi that cause canker disease and their critical infection periods are presented. Discussions include cultural and chemical control strategies for Eutypa dieback and the fungi associated with 'Bot' canker.
