Annual Public Deer Hunt Drawing
Controlled public deer hunting at the HREC is conducted the first three weekends of the usual North Coast region (Zone A) rifle deer season. These dates are determined annually by the California Department of Fish and Game. Our public hunt is conducted in association with long-term research efforts to improve the management of Columbian black-tailed deer (Odocoileus hemionus) herds. The hunt is only for legal (forked-horn or better) bucks, and is in accordance with all Fish & Game regulations. It is the responsibility of hunters to have a valid hunting license and deer tags, and understand all applicable state game regulations.
