"Plant a Row for the Hungry" Campaign
When Planting a Seed, Remember Those in Need
TRINITY COUNTY –For the first time, Trinity County’s Plant a Row for the Hungry campaign will be launched locally by the Trinity Coalition for Activity and Nutrition (TCAN), a coalition of local agencies, food assistant providers, community members, and health and nutrition educators, in an effort to increase healthy food donations to local food pantries.
Plant a Row encourages gardeners to plant an extra row of vegetables, fruit or herbs and donate it directly to one of the participating agencies and food pantries in Trinity County.
The need is great! More than 35% of Trinity County adults and their children reside in food insecure households. This means that these families do not have enough nutritious food to last throughout the month. Produce donated will go directly to residents of our community who need it most.
“The generous donations and participation from our community can make all the difference! We are excited to bring this campaign to Trinity County and hope people will share their garden abundance with those who experience food shortages” said Ingra Smith of the Trinity Coalition for Activity and Nutrition.
