This position would be of great importance to California and for Californians. Since most of our populations live in urban areas, the need for study of urban ecosystems from a wholistic viewpoint is critical to the understanding the impacts that the individual landscapes have on the environment. This type of position clearly is synergistic with all of the strategic initiatives and is very cross discipline in nature. As the Director of the Statewide Master Gardener Program, and as chair of the Urban Horticulture workgroup I strongly support this position.
