Student Resources
UC Davis has a plethora of resources for the animal sciences, academic advising, graduate/professional school, and more. We also have many student-run clubs that focus on animal-related volunteer or internship work and/or networking for graduate or professional schools. The links on this page will direct you to on-campus resources as well as some outside resources for various interests.
College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
The Animal Biology major is proudly part of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The College handles general education requirements and commencement ceremonies for ABI majors among other things.
Student Academic Success Center (SASC)
The Student Academic Success Center administers entry-level placement exams for new students and offers free academic assistance to all UC Davis students.
Located in Dutton Hall, the main office for the SASC is open Monday through Friday, 8:50 am to 4:00pm. We encourage you to stop by the SASC to meet the staff, pick up your copies of our Workshop Schedule and Drop-in Tutoring Schedule, and find out about all the resources we have to help you.
Center for Student Involvement (CSI)
With over 400 clubs and organizations on campus, the Center for Student Involvement is a great place to start when looking for ways to get involved! Clubs are a great way to make friends, gain valuable experience, network, or learn a new skill. Visit the CSI website and click on “Search orgs” to see exactly what clubs, orgs, and fraternities/sororities we have to offer!
Internship and Career Center (ICC)
The Internship and Career Center offers services to help students find jobs, internships, and volunteer work, both on and off campus, related to their field of study. The ICC also provides help with building resumes and working on interview skills. This resource is extremely important because you can take all the classes and read all the books but you never really know what it’s like until you’re in it. ;)
Students can take advantage of these resources by making appointments to meet with staff or visiting the ICC website.
Education Abroad Center (EAC)
If you are interested in studying abroad during your undergraduate career at UC Davis, the Education Abroad Center is a great resource to help make that happen. Every year we have many UC Davis students (including ABI majors) spend either a quarter, year, or summer abroad – you can be one of them! For further information on how, please start by exploring the EAC website.
VET SCHOOL RESOURCES:
Pre-Vet Advising
Many of our ABI majors are interested in applying to vet school after their undergraduate career. Required course work varies from school to school and, consequently, you should be certain that you are meeting the requirements for each individual school to which you wish to apply. AND since students of any major can apply to vet school, we have separate pre-vet advising services (located in 111 South Hall) to help students stay on track with those requirements.
UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine
The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine is one of the top vet schools in the nation and the world. If you are interested in the UC Davis vet school (which many of our pre-vet students are), their website has lots of information from FAQ's to admission requirements and financing.
Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges
For more information about other vet schools in America and how to prepare, the AAVMC has a great page on pre-vet resources.
