Camp Job Descriptions
4-H Camp Staff is an opportunity to learn & practice:

Duties include:
- Attend camp planning and subcommittee meetings and Camp Readiness day training in June
- Participate in staff orientation and training sessions.
- Carryout assigned duties at camp. Cooperate with other staff, cabin leaders and campers.
Requirements:
- Must have completed ninth grade at time of camp. Some positions have minimum age requirements or require an adult leader to be present during activites.
- Interest in camping activities, leadership and responsibility.
- Complete 4-H membership or leader training, insurance, waiver and fee requirements.

Director
- Oversee total program of 4-H Summer Camp including staff and counselors.
- Age requirement: 25 years (or 21 with leader over 25 supervision)
- Responsible for selection of staff and training.
- Immediate Supervisor: 4-H Advisor or Program Representative
Assistant Director
- Assist the director in camping program and training of staff and counselors.
- Handle administrative duties in camp as needed or directed.
- Capable of taking over all camp duties in the case the director becomes ill or must leave camp
- Age and additional requirements: 18 years or older and has at least three years of counselor or program responsibilities in a 4-H or similar type camp.
- Reports to Camp Director
Recreation Director
- Responsible for planning well in advance of camp, programs for Morning Activity Sessions, Free Time Recreation, Campfire, Vespers, and last night dance. (Descriptions of activities available at the 4-H Office.
- Reports to Camp Director
Archery
- Completed training for Archery Discipline of the 4-H Shooting Sports Program. If under 21, adult leader must be present.
- Prior to camp: check equipment; obtain replacements, set up range.
- During camp: conduct archery activities with campers
- Reports to Camp Director
Waterfront
- Responsible for all swimming, canoeing and fishing programs.
- Enforce water safety policies such as life jacket requirements for all traveling in 4-H canoes.
- Must have current lifeguard certificate and be over 18 years old.
- Reports to Camp Director
Ropes Director
- Should be familiar with ropes programs and attend a training program prior to camp
- Before camp, plan elements, additions, improvements, and repairs of previous elements.
- Set up elements before camp
- During camp, inspect elements for safe operating conditions
- Conduct activites with campers
- Complete an inventory at end of camp
- Reports to camp director
Arts and Crafts (3-4 Staff)
- Prior to camp: Select various types of crafts
- 2 months prior to camp, check what your budget will be and begin ordering supplies needed.
- Make samples of crafts for examples
- During camp, set up craft area in DeBoer hall
- Teach (and supervise) campers how to make crafts
- Complete inventory of equipment and materials at end of camp
- Reports to Camp Director
Hike
- Plan detailed program of daily hikes.
- If under 18 years old, must have an adult leader present on hikes off camp property.
- Have some knowledge of Central Sierra Nevada environment (flora, fauna, history, geology, etc)
- First aid training prefered. Responsible for brining first aid supplies on hikes.
- Cooperate with recreation directors in conduct of evening activities
- Report to camp director
Dining Hall Assistant
- Report to cook supervisor one hour before meal time
- Set up beverages, etc for meals
- Supervise clean-up after meals
- Clean pots and pans
- Assist in kitchen as assigned by cooks
- Immediate supervisor: Cook supervisor and camp director
Dishwasher
- Washing and sanitizing of dishes, silverware and glassware immediately after every meal
- Assist cook with various tasks as assigned
- Clean dining room and kitchen area
- Empty garbage
- Report to Cook Supervisor
Cook
- Adult with food service experience preferred
- Recommended that this person is also a certified food safety manager (Serv Safe)
- Plans menu for camp
- Orders food and supplies
- Supervises assistant cook, dishwasher, and dining hall assistant

- Immediate Supervisor: 4-H Advisor or Program Representative
Assistant Cook
- Adult over 18 years of age
- Background in group food preparation
- Assist cook supervisor in preparation of meals
- Be able to take over duties of cook in the event of absence or illness.
- Keep working areas clean
- Reports to cook supervisor
Nurse
- This position must be filled by board certified medical personnel (i.e. RN, LVN, EMT, Physicians Assistant, etc.)
- Provide all necessary first aid and emergency treatment
- Be present at time of camper check-in to collect prescription medicines, check health records, and examine individuals for lice.
