Pistachio Program
The Fresno County UC Cooperative Extension office currently does not have a Farm Advisor supporting pistachio research and extension education activities. However, a site has been developed for individuals interested in general pistachio information and resources (see “Pistachio Links”). If you are unable to find what you are looking for, please call our office (559) 600-7285 and we will assist in locating additional sources of information on pistachios.
California growers produce more than 98% of the nation’s pistachios, and about 25% of the production world-wide. More than 209,000 acres are planted throughout 22 counties in the state with a value of more than $723 million. In 2009, Fresno County growers alone produced 37,800 tons of pistachios on 25,731 acres, representing more than $144 million to the California economy.
