Members of the grape industry were instrumental in the founding of the National Clean Plant Network in 2008. Two specialty crops, grapes and fruit & nut trees, held their organizational meetings to join the NCPN in 2008.
The headquarters of the National Clean Plant Network for Grapes is at Foundation Plant Services at the University of California, Davis. FPS also manages the primary foundation vineyard for the NCPN.

At the outset in 2008, the NCPN for Grapes was divided into two regions - the Western Clean Plant Network (which included California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington) and the Eastern Clean Plant Network (the remaining states). In 2010, the NCPN Grapes eliminated the regional division and consolidated into a single national grape network.
