Training in Calaveras County
Tuolumne, Calaveras, Amador and El Dorado Counties coordinate training classes, alternating among the counties from year to year.
The next Master Gardener Training begins in late January of 2012 and will run for 15 to 16 weeks. Classes will be held once a week in Tuolumne County. Gardeners must pass a final exam and commit to 50 hours of volunteer service to Master Gardener projects, including the Demonstration Garden in Sonora, the first year following certification. After completion of the Master Gardener Training Program, volunteers would join the Master Gardeners of Calaveras or Tuolumne counties.
See Tuolumne Master Gardener Training for the 2012 training.
The training fee of $185 covers costs for textbooks, reference books, class handouts and hands-on material. Class instruction, demonstrations and hands-on activities are free to those who commit to the volunteer obligation. Business owners, commercial landscape contractors, and individuals are welcome to complete the training, without volunteer obligation, for $325.
Training is open to all tri-county residents but gardeners should apply in their home county and plan to volunteer on local projects:
- Calaveras & Tuolumne residents RSVP for the orientation by contacting Debbie Powell at 209-754-6473 or 209-533-5695.
- Amador County residents contact Sue Mosbacher at 209-223-6857.
If you would like to be notified when details of the next class are available (usually in November), call the Tuolumne UCCE Office at 209-533-5696 and ask to be included on the interest list for the Master Gardener training class. OR fill out the Interest in Master Gardener Training Survey to place your name on our mailing list for the next training.
