Each year, the Alfalfa Workgroup organizes a conference in California or one of the adjacent Western States focusing on production of alfalfa and other forages. The one and a half day conference typically consists of a general session including alfalfa and dairy industry updates followed by concurrent sessions that allow attendees to participate in smaller groups focused on issues important to themselves or their operations. The conference is usually held in early December and program and registration information is available on the Alfalfa Workgroup web site:
www.alfalfa.ucdavis.edu. This year, the conference will be held in Las Vegas, NV on December 12-13, 2011. A special tour is being organized this year to precede the conference. Details will be available soon.
Each fall, local San Joaquin Valley farm advisors host a field day at the Kearney Ag Center in Parlier. Program topics vary each year but the field day typically begins with a tour of the alfalfa variety trial and then continues in the air-conditioned comfort of the conference room with a series of presentations covering various aspects of alfalfa production. The ½ day field day is scheduled in early to mid-September. Visit this site in late summer for program details and information.
