Enrollment
Becoming a Member
All youth a that want to join 4-H must enroll annually. 4-H Enrollment is conducted mainly by the 4-H Club depending on delivery mode. Most San Diego County 4-H clubs allow year round enrollment though few do have limited enrollment dates. Please check with the individual club to determine if there is a cut off date for enrollment. The San Diego Enrollment schedule generally follows the traditional school year calender with the majority of clubs begin enrolling in September.
Youth are eligible to participate in 4-H if they meet the following criteria:
- Primary Members (also called Cloverbuds or Minimembers) - Must be 5 years old or in kindergarten by December 31 of the program year. Primary members cannot enroll in large animal projects. Youth enrolling or turning nine after December 31 must participate as a Primary Member until the end of the program year.
- 4-H Members - Must be 9 years old or in 4th grade by December 31 of the program year and may continue in the program until the end of the calendar year in which they become 19 years of age. Note: Home schooled youth are to enroll based on their chronological age, as of December 31.
It is important to check with the 4-H club leader on how to best enroll. There are two options for enrollment; Online enrollment through the 4hOnline system and traditional enrollment using paper forms.

Fees
San Diego County 4-H YDP program fees are established annually and are based on the delivery mode and level of participation. All participants must be enrolled in one or more of the deliveries available and in 4hOnline.com. The fees for 4-H youth or 4-H adult volunteers enrolling in multiple delivery modes are determined by identifying the delivery mode of greatest cost, and only charging the 4-H member or 4-H adult volunteer for this identified fee. The other delivery modes a 4-H member or 4-H adult volunteer may be enrolled in will not incur additional charges.
Base fee for participating in San Diego County 4-H for members is $33 plus material fees for projects. Most clubs will add an additional club fee for mailers, awards, flyers, etc.
Base fee for volunteer leaders in San Diego County is $15.
Clubs are authorized to charge additional fees for miscellaneous expenses such as awards, mailings, office supplies, etc... Please check with the individual club for more current information.
During the course of the year members may wish to participate in shows and fairs to demonstrate their mastery of project animals or materials. Clubs may assist with these fees but parents and members should be aware that many of these shows and fairs do charge entry fees.
