UC Cooperative Extension's 100th Anniversary
1913 - 2013

Anticipating passage of the Smith-Lever Act, Berkeley Ag College Dean Thomas Forsyth Hunt brought B.H. Crocheron from Maryland in 1913 to organize California’s Agricultural Extension Service.
UC Cooperative Extension is now in the very early planning stages for celebrating this auspicious occasion
and is soliciting thoughts and ideas from all
Cooperative Extension staff and academics.

I would like to be part of this planning process. 2013 is also the centennial for 4-H in California and the California 4-H Foundation has been hosting conversations for the past year with 4-H staff, volunteer and donor groups around a 4-H centennial project. We have also done some detailed preliminary planning around a centennial fundraising campaign.

I would like to be on the planning committee. Is a book documenting CE in California a part of the plans?

I would love to be a part of the process -- be it planning or assisting to carry out the ideas/work/tasks of the planning committee. I believe Cooperative Extension has something to offer everyone in our state. This celebration is a fabulous opportunity to reach those that may not be aware of our existence while furthering relationships with our existing clientele. Please contact me if you would like my help!

We are beginning to make plans for our 100th anniversary in Humboldt. It would be good to coordinate with others in ANR. From reviewing the materials that we have from the 75th anniversary (before my time in extension), we are identified as having the first farm advisor in California. In Humboldt we are trying to coordinate with the Farm Bureau that was established in 1913 as well, and with 4-H.
