FY 08-09 Core Issue Grants Program Update:

 October 2007

As you have heard, the Regents have approved a significant pay raise for faculty, effective October 1, 2007. Acting VP Standiford has been successful in obtaining approval for increases to the CE specialist and advisor salary scales that have the same percentage increase as the new faculty scales. The cost of this must be paid from ANR’s budget which was tentatively set several months ago. The salary adjustment, coupled with our commitment to continue recruiting at some level, means that some activities which had been planned for this year will have to be put on hold. After considerable discussion, the Program Council has recommended to Acting VP Standiford that the funding for NEW CORE ISSUE GRANTS be put on hold.

Please note that this does not pertain to currently funded CIG projects. We understand the amount of time and energy required to write a proposal of this nature and regret the necessity of the action. However, the benefits that will emerge from the increased salary levels for advisors and specialists are tremendous.

Sincerely,

Lucia Kaiser
