NRS moves to Academic Affairs On April 1, administration of the Natural Reserve System (NRS) was transferred from ANR to Academic Affairs. At the request of the Universitywide NRS Advisory Committee, Director Alex Glazer explored the possibility of transferring the administration of the Natural Reserve System from Agriculture and Natural Resources to Academic Affairs. Gomes and Provost and Senior Vice President-Academic Affairs Judson King considered the request and agreed to the transfer. “Discussions about this transfer have been under way for several years and I recently agreed to make this change,” Vice President Gomes says. Since each of the 35 reserve sites is managed by a nearby UC campus, not just ANR-affiliated campuses, the advisory committee felt it made sense for the NRS to be operated as a universitywide program, according to Glazer. In Academic Affairs, the NRS Director will report to Vice Provost for Research Lawrence B. Coleman. Among other responsibilities, the Office of Research oversees universitywide research programs and initiatives. The transfer does not change the administrative structure of the NRS on campuses or the permanent funding allocated to support NRS activities. Glazer emphasizes that NRS will continue to have a positive relationship with ANR, which has administered the 39-year-old system since 1977. The NRS will continue to participate with ANR in the annual Natural Resources Coordinating Conference, ANR will continue to provide an administrative home at UC Davis for the NRS federal surplus screeners, and Glazer will continue to act as Vice President Gomes' representative on the California Biodiversity Council. | Error processing SSI file |
