After much deliberation and discussion with many people, we have decided to cancel 4H Camp. This was a very difficult decision to make. We are very sorry to disappoint so many people, but feel it is in the best interest of our children.
You will be receiving refund checks in the mail next week- if you would like to stop by the office to pick it up in person, please feel free to do so. I will try to get them ready by Wednesday at the latest.

Hello everyone,
Lucia and I have been trying to make a decision as to continue with camp as planned or to cancel, it is a difficult one; and we have decided to wait a couple more days before making a final decision with the hope that the weather will turn in our favor and blow some of this smoke away.
Please know the safety of the campers and counselors is our biggest concern. We are looking into getting masks for the campers to wear as an alternative plan if we continue with camp.
In the event that you would like to cancel your childs attendance at camp will be happy to give you your registration fee no questions asked!
Again, please keep in mind if we do proceed to have camp as scheduled the air quality may never reach 100% normal and your child will be basically outside for 5 days with no real break from the smoke.
Please see the previous posts with web links to air quality reports if you want to know recommendations or suggestions on activity levels.
I will be heading up to the lake and the camp this weekend to check out the conditions before making a final decision. We welcome any questions, comments and concerns. Please do not hesitate to post them here or call us at the numbers below.

Hello Everyone,
I just got off the phone with the Forest Service. I called to ask about the smoke and a update on when they thought it might lift. The response I got was that the smoke may hang around for a few weeks still, depending on the weather and the fire conditions.
When I asked about how this might affect camp I was told that it is a judgement call. Any parents with children who have asthma or breathing conditons should think twice about sending thier children to camp.
I was up at Bucks Lake all last weekend and it was beatuiful everyday but one. I think, as of now we will continue as planned with camp unless thier is a drastic change in weather or fire conditons. We will notify all parents in the event that camp has been cancelled.
Please be realistic when considering sending your children to camp. We will do our best to ensure that they are sheltered from the smoke if it becomes a health hazard and are working on evacuation and parent notification systems in the event we would need to leave camp early.
Please feel free to conact me @ 530-283-3095 or stephaniebarreno@hotmail.com or Lucia at the 4-H office.
Thank you,
Stephanie Barreno
Camp Director
