Hello Amador County Master Gardeners! My name is Sue Mosbacher, and I am your new Program Rep. (Jeff Port is being a wonderful husband by following his wife to her dream job at the Stanford University Library.) I am also the Program Rep for Master Gardeners and Master Food Preservers in El Dorado County. I am excited about the opportunity of working with such a strong MG program. I will be at the next board meeting and general meeting and look forward to meeting you.
I will be in the Amador office two days a week, either Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Wednesday, depending on which county has a meetings on that week's Tuesday. My email address is smosbacher@ucdavis.edu, and my phone number is the same as Jeff's in Amador (209-223-6857) and in El Dorado, it's 530-621-5543.
I'll use this space to inform you of upcoming Continuing Education events and program news that happen before the next newsletter is published. Here's the first item.
If you're interested in Citrus, there's a special presentation coming up called "No more California Citrus?" The Asian citrus psyllid and huanglongbing disease are causing severe problems for both commercial citrus growers and home gardeners. The Sutter/Yuba County Farm Advisor has invited us to attend a special presentation by Beth Grafton-Cardwell, IPM Specialist and Research Entomologist with the Department of Entomology, UC Riverside, stationed at the Kearney Ag Center. The presentation is on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, from 10 am – Noon, at the Sutter/Yuba UCCE Meeting Room, 142A Garden Hwy, Yuba City, 95991. The event is listed in the VMS calendar. Please sign up on VMS by the end of September so I can give their Farm Advisor a head count of the number of people planning to attend from our county.
