Several new and exciting opportunities to earn CE hours are coming up this summer:
- The UCCE along with a host of other collaborating agencies and residents in California and Nevada will lead the “First Annual Lake Tahoe Basin Wildfire Awareness Week 2010” scheduled for July 3rd to July 11th. New Master Gardener Jen Cressy is leading a Firewise Landscaping Class on July 8 at the Lake Tahoe Community College Demonstration Garden from 5:30-6:30. For more information on the event and all scheduled activities, go to http://www.livingwithfire.info/tahoe/?click=nevadafireweek.
- The UCCE is also co-sponsoring a series of weekend educational programs in July and August aqbout balancing wildlife needs and fire hazard reduction in the Central Sierra Nevada. Two sessions that might be of interest to MGs are Plant Identification and Sensitive Plants (Aug 4), and Incorporating Wildlife and Sensitive Plant Considerations into Prescriptions and Community Wildfire Protection Plans (Aug 11). Registration is limited to 50 attendees. The flyer with the entire schedule is attached below for more information.
If you took pictures at the Certification Party or the following Garden Tour at Mike DeBord’s house (thank you, Mike!), I would love to get copies to post on VMS. You can email them to me or drop of prints at the office. If you didn’t get a copy of the Certification Party's program (which lists the names of the MG Class of 2010) and would like one, please let me know and I’ll put one in your mail slot in the MG office.
As more new MGs take a turn in the MG office, please be aware that we have several people working in our building who are extremely sensitive to perfumes and react with a migrane headache. I’m fortunate and rarely get headaches, but when I do, I am a whiney baby. I don’t know how they function when their head feels like it’s going to explode through their eyeballs. Please be considerate and don’t wear perfumes, body sprays, aftershave, and such when you come to the office. We appreciate your thoughtfulness.
