Estimating Trend in Occupancy for the S. Sierra Fisher Population

Estimating Trend in Occupancy for the Southern Sierra Fisher Martes pennanti Population
Carnivores are important elements of biodiversity, not only because of their role in transferring energy and nutrients, but also because they influence the structure of the communities where they occur. The fisher Martes pennanti is a mammalian carnivore that is associated with late-successional mixed forests in the Sierra Nevada in California, and is vulnerable to the effects of forest management. As a......

Short-term effects of fuel treatments on fisher habitat in the Sierra

Short-term effects of fuel treatments on fisher habitat in the Sierra Nevada, California.
The characteristics of western forests have changed as a result of fire suppression and fuel reduction treatments have become a public land management priority. The effects of these treatments on wildlife habitat, however, have received limited attention. The fisher (Martes pennanti) is a species of concern in California and is vulnerable to fuels treatments due to its association with dense forests and......

Mowgli and Orphan Annie as young kits
Great News!! The Fisher Science Team of the Sierra Nevada Adaptive Management Project have managed to recapture little “Orphan Annie” (aka F39) for the first time since her release nearly a year and a half ago. This young fisher kit is looking good and has grown into a beautiful wild female fisher! Her mother F31 was killed less than......

The response was overwhelming and the fisher research team would like to thank all of the people who sorted, dropped off or packaged, waited in line and mailed their recycled socks to them.
