Bio-Security & Swine Flu Dear 4-H Members and Volunteers:

There have been a few cases of swine influenza reported in humans recently. For more on this, please check the following information posted on the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s website: http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss/Animal_Health/Swine_Health.html

Additionally, this situation is a reminder to all of us involved in raising and showing of live animals to practice good bio-security at home and at fairs and exhibitions. The attached document is a bio-security checklist designed for 4-H by 4-H staff and researchers in Veterinary Medicine Extension at the University of California, Davis. We encourage you to use this checklist on a regular basis to assess your bio-security practices.

Lastly, if your animal shows any signs of illness, please contact your veterinarian and have your animal examined.

Sincerely,

4-H Animal Science Advisory Committee
